Child welfare agencies have been looking at domestic violence survivors through a “failure to protect” lens which blames them for the behaviors of the perpetrator. The Safe & Together Model is helping child welfare systems change to a perpetrator pattern-based approach. Advocates can use elements of this same Model to improve their advocacy for their clients who are involved with child welfare and promote systems change. In this package, we combine two eCourses with three 90 minute instructor-led practice sessions to enhance the skills of advocates and women's sector workers in advocating for their clients’ parenting strengths and pivoting the system’s attention back to the perpetrator as parent.
This training is designed to introduce the basics of the Safe & Together Model and connect the Model concepts and practice skills to specific application guidance for domestic violence advocates around advocating for child welfare-involved clients.
This course provides an introduction to the Safe & Together Model and its framework for partnering with domestic violence survivors, intervening with perpetrators, and enhancing child safety.
